Start Unsafe Toys Awareness And Offer Lead Testing Kits for Toxic Toys
Thursday, December 4, 2008
1 p.m.
The Law Offices of Garcia & Karam
820 South Main,
Legal, environmental, and child health and safety advocates will hold a news conference to warn parents of continuing dangers related to lead, phthlate, and cadmium-laced toys this holiday season. Over 45 million toys and children’s products were recalled in 2007-2008—many with hazardous lead levels. Dangerous toys highlighted by national consumer groups will be shown. A representative of the United Steelworkers’ “Women of Steel” advocacy group will demonstrate use of lead-testing kits, to be offered free of charge to residents. Experts will be on hand to discuss sweeping change to U.S. consumer protection laws that go into effect on Feb. 10, 2009, and the danger that toys containing lead still present this shopping season.
